Japan: Boosting Reforestation, Creating Quality Forest Resources.

日本の国土約3,780万haのうち、森林面積は約2,500万ha（約67%）、森林面積の約40%、1,000万haが、人工林とされています。 日本は、温暖な気候、豊富な降水量、肥沃な土壌等の恵まれた立地条件を有しています。世界的に気候変動により干ばつや山火事などが頻発する中において、日本はそのようなリスクが生じにくく、世界的にも木材生産に適した環境と言えます。 しかし、国内の人工林は年間約8〜9万ha主伐される中、再造林面積は年間3〜3.5万ha（40%）程度に留まっており、優良な人工林が減少しています。 リバーサルは、国内において過去の伐採跡地を含め、優良林業地の再造林を担い、持続可能な林業を実現します。

Of Japan's roughly 37.8 million hectares of land, about 25 million hectares (67%) are forested, and approximately 40% of that forest area — about 10 million hectares — is planted forest. Japan enjoys favorable conditions: a temperate climate, abundant rainfall, and fertile soil. As droughts and wildfires intensify worldwide due to climate change, Japan remains relatively insulated from these risks, making it one of the most favorable environments globally for timber production. However, while around 80,000–90,000 hectares of planted forest are clear-cut domestically each year, only 30,000–35,000 hectares (about 40%) are replanted, and high-quality planted forests are steadily declining. Reversal is committed to reforesting prime forestry sites, including past harvested areas, and to realizing sustainable forestry in Japan.
